Everyone can sing! Music is such a healing force in these fast-paced, often stressful times. I call my sessions “relaxed singing lessons” because relaxed and uplifted is how you will feel. The essence of my singing lessons is wellbeing, fun and confidence, allowing you to enjoy learning songs and developing your musicality in a safe and non-judgemental environment. We also work on holding ourselves confidently and expressing ourselves; skills and traits that have a positive effect in everyday life.

I am passionate about the physical and mental health benefits of singing, drawing on experience from my many years as Head of Music at secondary school level, choir leader, singing facilitator in care centres and being a singer myself (ABRSM Grade 8 singing, choral singing and lead vocalist in bands). I guide you to work with your voice as it is, warming up gently and suggesting simple techniques to help you get the best out of it safely and avoiding strain. (Please note that I do not ‘train’ or stretch voices, neither can I diagnose or fix vocal problems).

I am a skilled ear-player on the piano and able to play most things for you, so I can facilitate songs of your choice. What makes my lessons unique is that I can tailor the repertoire to suit you, giving the fulfilling experience of performing songs that you love with another live musician.

I work with beginner to intermediate level singers. My client profile is very diverse – around 40 pupils from age 9 to almost 80. Every summer you have the opportunity to take part in a showcase.

Although Music lessons do not have to be about academic achievement, many pupils do opt to take exams as it gives them a focus and recognition of their work. I have a 100% pass rate with ABRSM exams, with 95% passing with Merit or Distinction. I am fully DBS checked and a member of the Musician’s Union.

I also welcome GCSE Music students who require help with their performing coursework and listening skills, and instrumentalists who require help with the Aural section of practical exams, up to Grade 8.

What we work on in singing lessons:

Confidence/Mind set             Posture                Ideal range          Expression          Aural skills Breathing     Diction                  Projection          Sight-singing      Ensemble skills  Having fun!

I offer piano lessons for children and adult beginners. I am an experienced piano player having been Head of Music in a secondary school for several years and playing piano in school concerts and productions, playing keys in local bands and accompanying my singing pupils on the piano in their lessons, in the showcase and in exams. Learn just for fun, for relaxation or to take early grade exams. Styles to suit you. Limited appointments available to fit around my singing teaching on weekday mornings before 11.30am and on Saturday mornings.  Piano lessons take place at my home in Windsor.

These aspects of practical exams are quite challenging in themselves. They are the same tests whether you sing or play an instrument. There is often not much time in your practical music lessons to go into these skills in depth so I welcome performers of all instruments and grades for extra tuition in this. Students of all grades 1-8 welcome and you don’t already have to be learning your instrument with me. Please check out my website www.karen-mccabe.co.uk for more information and testimonials.

Payment options for singing, piano and aural lessons

I offer a 30 minute taster lesson. After that, a block of 6 weekly lessons is paid for to coincide with the school terms. Payments are made in advance of the term. Cash or bank transfer payments accepted. Please note that fees are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend the lesson for any reason, I will always do my best to reschedule it for you but it has to be within the same 6 week block and is dependent upon others cancelling their slot as I am usually full to capacity.

The following prices come into effect from April 2019 and are based on a one-to-one lesson. Discounts are available for paired lessons:

6 x 30 minute lessons = £120.00 (£20 per lesson)

6 x 60 minute lessons = £240.00 (£40 per lesson)

Save money by pairing up with somebody else (only applies to singing):

6 x 30 minute paired lessons = £150 (£12.50 per person per lesson)

6 x 60 minute paired lessons = £300 (£25 per person per lesson)
